About Dr. Bohra
Lisa Bohra, MD is a board-certified, fellowship-trained pediatric ophthalmologist with more than two decades of experience caring for children with complex eye conditions. Her clinical expertise includes pediatric glaucoma, pediatric cataracts, strabismus, pediatric uveitis, and retinopathy of prematurity (ROP).
Dr. Bohra has been with Children’s Eye Care since 2002 and serves as Chief of Ophthalmology at Children’s Hospital of Michigan. In addition to caring for patients and performing pediatric eye surgery, she is actively involved in clinical research, medical education, and national leadership in pediatric ophthalmology.

Academic & Hospital Leadership
Dr. Bohra has served as Chief of Ophthalmology at Children’s Hospital of Michigan since 2020, where she has been a staff pediatric ophthalmologist since 2002.
She is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Wayne State University and an Assistant Clinical Professor at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. Through her academic roles, she is actively involved in educating medical students, residents, and future ophthalmologists.
Her teaching has included pediatric glaucoma, uveitis, strabismus, ocular trauma, and other complex pediatric eye conditions.
Research & Clinical Trials
Dr. Bohra is actively involved in national clinical research focused on improving the diagnosis and treatment of childhood eye disease. She serves as a Principal Investigator for the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG) and has participated in multiple national studies involving amblyopia, strabismus, pediatric optic neuritis, and pediatric uveitis.
Her current PEDIG research includes serving as Principal Investigator for a randomized study of dichoptic treatment for amblyopia in young children and a national study of uveitis in children. Previous PEDIG research has included intermittent exotropia, pediatric optic neuritis, and adult strabismus.
Dr. Bohra has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications on pediatric eye disease, including research involving pediatric glaucoma, strabismus, amblyopia, ROP, and other pediatric ophthalmic conditions. She has also contributed chapters on pediatric ocular trauma to the American Academy of Pediatrics Textbook of Pediatric Care.
Professional Leadership & Recognition
Dr. Bohra is actively involved in the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS) and serves as Vice-Chair of its International Affairs Committee. Her service to AAPOS has also included its Program, Uveitis, Public Information, Socioeconomic, Young Ophthalmologist, and Vision Through Music committees.
In recognition of her contributions to pediatric ophthalmology, Dr. Bohra received the AAPOS Honor Award in 2023. She has also been repeatedly recognized as a Top Doctor in Pediatric Ophthalmology by Hour Detroit.
Dr. Bohra also serves as a National Board Examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology, participating in the examination of ophthalmologists seeking board certification.
Education & Advanced Training
Dr. Bohra completed a Pediatric Ophthalmology Fellowship at Indiana University after completing her ophthalmology residency at Baylor College of Medicine’s Cullen Eye Institute in Houston.
She earned her medical degree from the University of Michigan and her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University, where she graduated magna cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
