About Dr. Rotberg
Leemor Rotberg, MD is a board-certified, fellowship-trained pediatric ophthalmologist with more than 20 years of experience caring for children with eye conditions. Her clinical expertise includes pediatric strabismus, amblyopia, pediatric cataracts, and eyelid conditions, and she also provides specialized care for adults with strabismus and double vision.
Dr. Rotberg has been with Children’s Eye Care since 2005. In addition to patient care and surgery, she has a major role in training the next generation of pediatric ophthalmologists and orthoptists. She serves as Fellowship Director of the Pediatric Ophthalmology Fellowship Program at Children’s Hospital of Michigan and was the Medical Director of the Children’s Eye Care Orthoptic Training Program.

- Pediatric Eyelid Conditions – evaluation and treatment of eyelid conditions in children, including ptosis (drooping eyelid)
- Amblyopia (Lazy Eye) – evaluation and management of reduced vision during childhood
Academic Leadership & Teaching
Education is a significant part of Dr. Rotberg's career. She serves as Fellowship Director for Pediatric Ophthalmology at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, where she oversees advanced subspecialty training for ophthalmologists pursuing careers in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus.
She was also Medical Director of the Orthoptic Training Program at Children’s Eye Care, helping educate future orthoptists in the specialized evaluation of eye alignment and eye movement disorders.
Dr. Rotberg is a Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Wayne State University School of Medicine and a Clinical Assistant Professor at Oakland University School of Medicine. Her teaching extends to ophthalmology and pediatric residents as well as fellows and orthoptic students.
Research & Publications
Dr. Rotberg has contributed to research involving strabismus, amblyopia, pediatric eyelid conditions, and other pediatric eye disorders. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of AAPOS and JAMA Ophthalmology.
Her research and presentations have included surgical outcomes in childhood strabismus, adult strabismus associated with thyroid eye disease, congenital ptosis, amblyopia treatment, and other pediatric ophthalmic conditions.
More recently, Dr. Rotberg has been involved in research examining Vitamin A deficiency in children with autism spectrum disorder and restricted diets and the long-term course of congenital Brown syndrome.
Professional Leadership & Service
Dr. Rotberg holds significant leadership roles within the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS) and its charitable foundation, the Children’s Eye Foundation.
She currently serves on the AAPOS Board of Directors as Chairperson of the Children’s Eye Foundation and is an Advisory Board member of the Foundation. Her previous national service has included leadership and committee roles involving professional education, international affairs, corporate relations, and fellowship training.
Dr. Rotberg also serves as an AAPOS Pediatric Ophthalmology Mentor and participates in the organization's All Children See program.
Education & Advanced Training
Dr. Rotberg completed her Pediatric Ophthalmology Fellowship at Indiana University after completing her ophthalmology residency at Wayne State University/Kresge Eye Institute.
She earned her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, where she received the Distinguished Service Award and Dong H. Shin Outstanding Ophthalmology Research Award.
Dr. Rotberg earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Michigan State University, where she received numerous academic honors.
