New Pediatric Ophthalmology Clinical Investigators

Children’s Eye Care is proud to be clinical investigators for the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG). PEDIG is a collaborative network dedicated to facilitating multi-center clinical research in strabismus, amblyopia and other eye disorders that affect children. This network is funded by the National Eye Institute (NEI) – a branch of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). There are currently over 100 participating sites (offices) with over 200 pediatric ophthalmologists and pediatric optometrists in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom participating in PEDIG.

Introducing New Pediatric Ophthalmologist – Alexandra Apkarian, MD

We’re excited to introduce our newest eye doctor. Alexandra O. Apkarian, MD practices comprehensive pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus. Through her intensive training, she developed a strong clinical interest in strabismus in both children and adults as well as a variety of other common pediatric ophthalmology disorders. Winner of the 2015 Richard G. Scobee Memorial Award

Nina Palomba, CO, COA won the 2015 Richard G. Scobee Memorial Award. This national recognition is given to the orthoptist, and training program, who received the highest written and oral scores on that year’s board certification. Ms. Palomba joined Children’s Eye Care in 2011 as an ophthalmic tech-trainee a year after completing her BS in child development at Central Michigan University.

Our physicians will not write a “doctor’s excuse” to exempt any patient from not being required to wear masks in school, sports, daycare or any other activity. While we recognize there are a few medical conditions that may require an exemption from masking, every one of the doctors of CEC feel there are no eye conditions that require the absence

Her practice focus is on all aspects of comprehensive pediatric ophthalmology. Through her intensive training, she developed a strong clinical interest in strabismus, infantile/congenital cataracts and glaucoma as well
